The course is typically created for the preparation of a candidate that is new to the Operations environment. This course is aimed at providing the candidate with the required tools and knowledge to provide crew- and dispatch- assistance in an Operations control centre. Emphasis throughout the course is the provision of flight crew briefing.
Course overview and duration
The FRO/FF course is covered over 5 days of classroom training which is conducted in the following manner:
Day 1: Course registration and Pre-assessment meeting, followed by introduction to the Aviation Operations.
Day 2: Theory training on Meteorology and Navigation subject matter.
Day 3: Theory training on Aerodynamics, Weight and Balance and Performance subjects.
Day 4: Theory training on Regulations and Air law followed by Practical training and applications.
Day 5: the morning session is usually spent on preparation for assessment where a Knowledge questionnaire is completed, followed by a practical dispatch and flight following assignment. The candidate is then required to complete an Oral interview with the Assessor to finalise the Assessment.
The course subjects include the following:
4. Weight and balance;
6. ICAO and South African Regulations;
7. Flight Planning;
8. Dispatch Recourse Management.
The EFO FRO/FF course yields a SACAA certificate of qualification on the day of completion (Day 5). Followed by submission of portfolios to the Moderator and External Validation, once the process has been completed, the candidate will receive a Statement of Results reflecting the credits gained from the National Qualifications Framework as well as a Certificate from EFO College stating their qualification in the field of Providing Operational and Strategic Support to a Flight.
